What is Bath Stone ?
Bath Stone is an Oolitic Limestone comprising granular fragments of
calcium carbonate. Originally obtained from the Combe Down and
Bathampton Down Mines under Combe Down, Somerset, England, its warm,
honey colouring gives the World Heritage City of Bath, England its
distinctive appearance. An important feature of Bath Stone is that it is
a freestone, that is one that can be sawn or 'squared up' in any
direction, unlike other rocks such as slate, which forms distinct
layers. Bath Stone has been used extensively as a building material
throughout southern England for churches, houses and public buildings
such as railway stations. Some of the quarries from which the stone was
taken are still in use; however the majority have been converted to
other purposes or are being filled in.

Bath Stone Reclamation is a small business
based in Walcot Street, Bath. We reuse Bath Stone blocks, for the
general public and trade to re-use for extensions, building projects,
walling. Our specialty is that all of the work (tooling) we conduct is
by hand which follows our 'greener environment' principles.
Bath Stone Reclamation
originally opened some 50 years ago, The new owners (us) took over the
business in 2009 injecting it with enthusiasm and fresh capital. We
have had a prosperous start with a very warm reception by our customers
new and old.

Bath Stone Reclamation, the greener and more
environmentally friendly approach to your building projects. We purchase
Bath Stone or Ashlar Blocks from pre developed land, demolished
buildings, builders, and private clients in the local area. The stone is
transported to our workshops where it is given a new lease of life. The
stone or ashlar is then re-sold back into the building industry.
Our work is all hand
dressed and sawn using traditional tools. This highly skilled process
give us the the best possible results and produces a high quality stone
that is perfectly suited for use in the City of Bath.
